How much is Shopify in 2025? Pricing plans

More and more businesses choose to create an online store to sell their products or services and, as I’ve seen by collaborating with various projects, many (I would most of them) use Shopify for this because it is a platform that integrates all the necessary ecommerce features under one same pricing structure.

Shopify is the best option to start your own store if you don’t have much technical knowledge since it is easy to configure, allows simple management of products, inventory, checkout, payments, sales, shipping, etc., includes hosting and is also secure. Great, but how much does Shopify cost?

Well, the price will depend on the plan you choose, according to the magnitude of the project and needs you have. Additionally, you should keep in mind that Shopify takes a fee per sale that varies with the plan and they also charge you a percentage if you use a third-party payment provider instead of theirs (Shopify Payments).

Despite this, it is one of the most profitable ways to have an online store today and has a great reputation, being one of the most well-known and used ecommerce platforms in the world.

SHOPIFY UPDATE 2025: On April 9, 2025, Shopify has officially changed the name of their “Shopify” plan to “Grow”.

Shopify price increase

LAST SHOPIFY PRICE INCREASE – JANUARY 23, 2023: In January 2023, Shopify announced its first significant price increase in 12 years. The Basic plan rose from $29 to $39 per month (34% increase), the Shopify plan from $79 to $105 per month (33% increase), and the Advanced plan from $299 to $399 per month (33% increase). The updated pricing took effect immediately for new merchants, while existing merchants were given a three-month grace period before the new rates applied. To maintain their current rates, merchants were encouraged to switch from monthly to yearly plans before April 23, 2023. These adjustments aimed to support Shopify’s continued investment in platform development and merchant success.

*Before the January 2023 price increase, Shopify’s yearly plans were simply the monthly price multiplied by 12, meaning there was no additional discount for annual billing.

How much is Shopify per month? Main plans prices

Shopify pricing can range from $29 to $399 per month in 2025, although they also have a lower plan for $5 per month called Starter and a higher Plus plan for $2,300 per month.

Their main plans are: Basic, Grow, and Advanced, with different costs if paid monthly or yearly.

Here you can see the 3 main Shopify plans comparison, their prices and differences. Also, the percentage fee that Shopify takes per sale:

All Shopify plans, offers, and pricing

Shopify’s monthly fees depend on the subscription plan you choose. But which plan is best for me? Let’s see all of them.

The Basic plan, which costs $29 or $39 per month, is designed for small businesses in the initial stages with a low level of billing. It provides all the basic ecommerce tools needed to get started. With few sales you will cover the cost of Shopify, but you will have to keep an eye on the commissions to upgrade from the Basic plan when it’s worth it.

The Grow plan — previously called Shopify — has a price of $79 or $105 per month and will be more suitable for you as your online store grows because you’ll have lower commissions and more features.

The Advanced plan is for more mature businesses, with more customers, employees and plans to expand to other countries. Its price is $299 or $399 per month.

Shopify also offers other solutions in addition to the 3 main plans:

The Starter plan costs $5 per month and is an add-on that you can use especially to sell your products through social media, but it’s not useful to create a complete and independent online store.

Retail, with a price of $79 or $89 per month, is for in-person sales. Shopify is increasingly standing out physical sales with its POS (point-of-sale) app. The POS system is one of the best tools for businesses that want to manage both online and in-store sales seamlessly.

There is also a Plus plan starting at $2,300 per month for very large businesses in terms of orders (high sales volume) and billing.

It should be noted that Shopify offers you the possibility of contacting them to customize prices (Enterprise commerce).

Is Shopify worth it? What are its advantages? My personal review

Many businesses choose Shopify over other alternatives like WooCommerce because of how optimized everything is, which makes the conversion rate (from visitor to buyer) very good in comparison.

Although you have to pay its price, personally I think it is worth it, especially if you don’t want to struggle with technical issues and make everything look professional. They include unlimited web hosting and you can even buy the domain with them, use one you have or keep the one they give you by default.

They even make it easy for you to migrate/import your data (customers, products and orders) through their Store Importer app if you already have an ecommerce and want to switch to Shopify.

In my opinion, it’s the most complete and entire solution when it comes to ecommerce.

If you want to try it out before committing, you can take advantage of the free trial coupon offered by Shopify to get familiar with its tools and see if it fits your business needs. After 3 free days, the first 3 months cost just $1/month — one of the best deals Shopify has released to date.

Additional costs for your Shopify store

As you make your Shopify online store more professional, you may need to pay for some of these extras:

Domain

You will purchase it if you don’t want your store to end in “.myshopify.com”. It’s usually cheap, around $15/year. You can purchase it through Shopify itself or through a domain registrar and then link it.

Premium Shopify Theme

Shopify offers free and premium or paid themes. These latest templates are usually better in many aspects and their average price is around $200.

Paid Shopify Apps

There is a wide range of them with different utilities. Depending on what you need, you will choose which to buy. Their prices vary a lot, and you can even find free apps or free trials.

Third-party payment provider

As I mentioned above, you will have to pay these fees if for whatever reason you don’t want or can’t use Shopify Payments.

Other extra costs for your Shopify store

Although Shopify is designed so that it is not necessary, at some point you may need to have a web developer or designer for aesthetic or technical reasons, especially in the event of an issue or unexpected event with your ecommerce, such as a payment processing error. For businesses using Shopify’s POS system, additional hardware like card readers or barcode scanners may also incur extra costs.

Maximizing your Shopify store: features, costs and business solutions

Running a successful ecommerce business requires more than just setting up a Shopify store; you need to explore its full potential to maximize profits while managing costs effectively.

Shopify offers a range of features tailored to different business needs, from new entrepreneurs to enterprise-level stores.

Key features and customization

Shopify provides merchants with powerful tools and features to build and manage their online store efficiently. From custom themes to third-party apps, you can personalize your website to fit your brand’s identity.

The platform supports advanced product management, seamless checkout solutions, and marketing tools to help you sell more. Businesses can choose a basic setup or opt for advanced functionality to enhance their store.

Costs and subscription plans

Understanding Shopify’s pricing structure is essential to budget effectively. While the platform offers a free trial to help new users explore its features, businesses should consider ongoing subscription fees, transaction costs, and third-party payment processing charges.

As we’ve seen before, additional costs may include premium themes, POS hardware, and other services that enhance your store’s capabilities.

Payment processing and checkout optimization

Efficient payment processing is crucial for customer satisfaction. Shopify Payments allows you to accept credit cards without third-party transaction fees, but you can also integrate external payment gateways if needed, which may introduce additional transaction fees.

The checkout process is highly customizable, enabling businesses to offer discounts, manage tax calculations, and optimize for conversions.

Selling online and in-person

Shopify supports various selling channels, including social media, marketplaces, and in-person sales through its POS system. This flexibility helps small businesses and large enterprises alike to expand their reach and manage all sales from a single platform.

With features like automatic tax calculations, custom shipping options, and analytics, merchants can refine their commerce strategy over time.

Business growth and support

Whether you’re looking for starter plans or enterprise solutions, Shopify offers resources to help your business grow efficiently. From marketing integrations to data insights, businesses can track their progress and make informed decisions.

Shopify’s 24/7 support, extensive blog, and online guides provide valuable assistance to merchants at every stage.

Final thoughts

With the right strategy, Shopify can be the best platform to launch and scale your ecommerce business, helping you get more sales and grow faster. By leveraging its features, managing costs wisely, and utilizing the available resources, you can create a profitable online store.

Small businesses and growing enterprises alike will find the solutions needed to succeed in the world of ecommerce.
